As of tomorrow, it will be officially illegal to unlock a cell phone- that is, to free a device from restrictions that keep it from working on multiple wireless carrier networks.  The practice was actually outlawed by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act back in October, but there was a 90-day grace period before it took full effect.  If you want to free your phone before the deadline, you can ask your wireless company to do it for you, or search the web for a code that helps you do it yourself.  And you can legally obtain an unlocked phone after Saturday- by paying full-price for a device without a contract.
