After a 15-year-old British girl lost her voice, doctors were unable to restore it -- but they didn't count on the apparent healing properties of One Direction's Harry Styles.
According to the U.K. publication Metro, Laura Yeates had been unable to speak for six months after contracting both laryngitis and pharyngitis. Despite several hospital trips and sessions with speech therapists, the teen still couldn't use her voice. But then her mom took her to see One Direction at Wembley Stadium.
"On the day of the concert I was slightly upset because I would not be able to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the rest of the crowd," Laura told Metro. "But we got so close to the stage and as Harry came over, he chucked water over us. I tried to scream, just to make him notice me, and when he blew a kiss in my direction, a scream came out."
"I said to my mum, 'Mum, listen!' and as I tried to carry on screaming, my voice was coming back more and more," Laura continued.
Her mom, meanwhile, pronounced herself "gobsmacked" -- British for "shocked" -- by the restoration of her daughter's voice. "I wasn’t a big fan [of 1D] but I am now," says Mom. "She went in not talking and she came out talking, and she hasn’t stopped."
Laura notes, "No psychiatrist, no speech and language, no doctor or nurse could bring my voice back, but One Direction could."
One Direction will bring their magical healing powers to North American fans starting August 1.
