Loneliness Can Be As Bad For You As Smoking

A new study says loneliness and social isolation are as bad for your health as smoking almost a pack of cigarettes a day.

British researchers say loneliness can harm a person's health as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. The study found loneliness can increase the chance of death by 26-percent and raise the risk of high blood pressure and obesity.

While the issue of loneliness has been long linked to the elderly, it is becoming a problem for young people who find themselves isolated.

While those findings surprised researchers, they were not surprised to find loneliness makes people more prone to depression and thoughts of suicide and raises the risk of dementia.

If you feel isolated, take the chance on finding a meet up group or community activity to become involved in.Source: IFL Science
