Your Next Smartwatch Powered By Sweat

Researchers at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore are showing off their newest invention; a thin battery that converts sweat into electricity. The battery is just .8 inches square and can turn two milliliters of sweat into 20 hours’ worth of electricity. It’s attached to a stretchy sweat-absorbent band that can be worn around the wrist or upper arm.

How much power does it put out? Scientists tested it on a person's wrist on an exercise bike for 30 minutes, and the 4.2 volts it generated were enough to power a sensor and send the data to a smartphone via Bluetooth continuously. The best part? The new battery doesn’t have any heavy metals or toxic chemicals.
