If you take Wisconsin 93 to work in Eau Claire you may notice a difference in your commute.  Starting this week some traffic lights along the highway will be upgraded, in the hopes of saving drivers time.  Crews with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will improve signals at the Golf Road intersection and the Hamilton Avenue/Mall Drive intersection.  Right now, drivers can only make onto WIS 93, on a green turn arrow. But soon some lights will include a flashing yellow arrow as well, so drivers can proceed with caution and keep traffic moving. Drivers must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians during the flashing yellow left turn arrow.  WisDOT officials believe that upgrading six signals at those intersections, which operate as a system at certain times during the day, could reduce driver delay in that area by 20 percent.

The University of Wisconsin Extension service is working with 15 fewer agents than it had last year.  Those agents can be a big help to farmers by offering advice and connecting them to university researchers. The director of the Extension's cooperative division, Karl Martin, says budget cuts of three-point-six-million dollars made by the Legislature two years ago are to blame.  Right now, Grant, Green and Lafayette counties don't have a full-time agent, even though those counties have paid the fees.  Extension is in the process right now of hiring six agents.
