A St. Croix County man accused of murdering his son, was bound over for trial on Tuesday. Kayle Fleischauer is charged with first degree intentional homicide and possession a firearm as a felon. At Tuesday's preliminary hearing, two state investigators took the stand to tell the court what they found when the arrive to Fleischauer's New Richmond home in the early morning hours of April 15. According to court records, the victim, 20 year old Chase Fleischauer, was shot in the head. Deputies said they found Chase's father smelled of alcohol and was laughing and behaving erratically. At one point, they said he exposed himself to investigators. Tuesday, the judge denied a request to modify Fleischauer's $500,000 bond. He'll return to court for an arraignment hearing on May 25.
A Chippewa Falls man had his first court appearance Tuesday on charges of sexually assaulting a child. Jay Fasbender Sr. faces two counts of child sexual assault. According to the criminal complaint, a boy told investigators in March that Fasbender had sexual contact with him on two occasions several years ago when he was 13 or 14-years-old. Fasbender will return to court in July.
A weekend shooting in Polk County leads to attempted murder charges against a Clear Lake man. Leonard Claude Anderson is charged with firing at least six shots from a .22-caliber rifle into Michael Kerns' SUV. Kerns told deputies he went to Anderson's property Saturday night to pick up his camper, when Anderson fired three shots into the car. Kerns said he immediately started driving away when Anderson started shooting again - hitting the rear window, tailgate and the inside visor just above Kerns' head. Anderson first told detectives he accidentally fired the gun. He later admitted he was angry and "saw red." He referenced his prior military experience as a catalyst for his behavior and referred to the victim as a threat. Anderson is being held on $25,000 cash bond.
A drug bust in Polk County leads to the discovery of an illegal machine gun and gun silencers. Benjamin Chouinard, from Turtle Lake, was arrested Monday after investigators said he took delivery of a package containing four pounds of marijuana. They said a search of his home turned up another five pounds of marijuana edibles and another large bag of pot. They also found a machine gun and two silencers, which are illegal to possess. Chouinard was charged Tuesday with nine felonies. No court dates have been set.
