Save The Planet When You Get Your Hair Trimmed

If you’ve ever thought about cutting your hair and donating it to a good cause like Locks of Love, but couldn’t for one reason or another, we’re happy to tell you about another way to help with your hair. It turns out, your split ends could help save the planet! And one company is collecting them to do just that.

Green Circle Salons takes the hair left on the floor when you get a cut and puts it to work. Stylists collect your hair trimmings and ship them off to the company, which then uses them to make “hair booms,” which are like stockings filled with strands. Because hair can absorb an impressive amount of oil, the booms are then used to sop up oil spills around the globe.

Green Circle works with more than 1,600 salons in North America, so that’s a lot of unwanted hair! The company also collects, recycles, and repurposes other salon stuff like used foils and color-tubes, which also helps the environment. And wouldn’t it be nice to get a new ‘do and make the world a better place, while you’re at it?
