Has Amelia Earhart Been Found?

A scientist says Amelia Earhart's bones may have been found on a Pacific island. An anthropology professor at the University of Tennessee says he's 99-percent sure that bones discovered on a Pacific island in 1940 are that of the legendary aviator. The new research contradicts a 1941 analysis of the bones that said they belong to a male.

Of course, Earhart disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937, and her whereabouts continue to be a source of debate. Many believe she died a castaway on a remote island north of Samoa. Others say she died as a captive of the Japanese. At issue are human bones that were found on the island three years after Earhart's disappearance.

The new study says a modern analysis of the bones strongly support the conclusion that they belong to Earhart. The problem? The actual bones have gone missing.
