Man’s Graduation Proposal Criticized For Stealing Girlfriend’s Moment

Folks on the Internet have struck again. Some online trolls are calling out a man who recently proposed to his girlfriend at her college graduation because they think it was wrong of him to be stealing the spotlight on her big day.

James Clark recently shared video of him proposing to longtime girlfriend Marquell, who had just graduated from Southern University in Louisiana. The moment was viewed over two-million times on Twitter, but apparently not because people were happy to see the romantic moment.

Online trolls called James out for the romantic gesture, saying the day was Marquell’s “time to shine,” and he basically stole that from her, with many noting that Marquell didn’t look too happy as her man got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

  • “Stop proposing to women during celebrations of their accomplishments and dimming their lights,” one person wrote, while another added, “Men never take a day off from being manipulative trash.” Others called him “selfish,” and wondered why he decided to make her big day “about him.”
  • There were also plenty of people who defended James, with one noting, “'I don't think he took away from her moment. He told her how proud he was of her and her accomplishments.”
  • As for Marquell, she assured everyone she was “very happy” with the proposal. “For everyone concerned if I was excited about my proposal! I AM VERY HAPPY,” she tweeted. “I'm where y'all want to be... a degree and engagement all in one day... Jealousy is really a disease y'all need to find Jesus! Y'all are so hateful please seek help!”
