Today Is National Doughnut Day! Here’s Where To Find Freebies

This is the first Friday in June and that means it’s National Doughnut Day! Unlike some other made up food holidays, this one has a real history. National Doughnut Day was established back in 1938 by the Chicago branch of the Salvation Army as a way to honor the women - known as “Donut Lassies” - who used the minimal resources they had to make doughnuts for soldiers during World War I.

Now that you know the backstory, here’s where you can find free doughnuts, deals, and discounts for National Doughnut Day tomorrow:

  • Cumberland Farms- Swing by the store and buy a “dispensed beverage” to get a doughnut for free, with flavors including Cocoa-Hazelnut-filled, Cookies and Cream, Glazed, and Blueberry.
  • Duck Donuts- They’re giving away a free bare, powdered sugar, or cinnamon sugar donut to each customer in stores.
  • Dunkin’- Buy any drink and get a free classic donut of your choice, options include Boston Kreme, Glazed, Glazed Chocolate, and Strawberry Frosted with Sprinkles.
  • Federal Donuts- They’re not offering any freebies, but they are bringing back some of the throwback flavors voted on by fans, including Tres Leches, Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Meringue, and “PB Malt.”
  • Krispy Kreme- Their National Doughnut Day deal is a two-parter. First, come in Friday to get a free doughnut, no purchase required. The doughnut chain also made a bet that if they give away a million freebies on Friday, they’ll have another giveaway of their next new doughnut later this month.
  • Randy's Donuts- This one’s for the donut hole fans! Randy’s will be giving away four glazed donut rounds to everyone from 6am to noon at all locations, while supplies last.
  • Walmart- Stop in the bakery section of a participating store to get one free glazed doughnut.

What The Side Of The Bed You Sleep On Says About You

When it comes to sleeping, most people have a preference for what side of the bed they sleep on and it seems where you sleep may say a lot about you.

According to a new survey, those who choose to sleep on the left side of the bed, tend to enjoy oldies music and drama films, and politically, they also tend to swing to the left. On the flipside, those who sleep on the right side tend to prefer rock music and action flicks, and lean to the right politically.

As for why people choose the side of the bed they sleep on, the biggest factor has to do with getting out of it. The poll finds that 40% of people chose their side of the bed because it’s the one that makes it easier to leave the bed. Partners also play a big role, with 31% saying they sleep on their side because their partner prefers the other one.Other reasons for choosing a side of the bed include:

  • Better access to nightstand (31%)
  • Better view of TV (25%)
  • I like to sleep against a wall (18%)
  • ONE MORE THING!Regardless of the side people sleep on, it seems most aren’t actually getting a good night’s sleep. The survey finds despite recommendations we get eight hours of sleep a night, most Americans only get about six. More specifically, the average American gets six hours and 22 minutes of sleep a night, with 22% of Americans getting only between four and five.

Most Americans Skip Or Are Distracted During Their Lunch Break

We’ve all got to eat, but taking time out of our work day to stop and have a break for lunch is something less and less people are doing in this day and age. A new survey finds lots of Americans are skipping the average lunch break, with Millennials the most guilty of doing it, with two in three saying they skip it to “get ahead” at work.

But even when folks do take lunch, they are rarely just eating. Most spend their lunch break distracted, with 67% spending their time checking social media, and 59% checking out the news. And forget going out, most people say they spend, on average, at least half of the work week eating lunch at their desk.

And with so many people busy during lunch, few are making healthy choices. Convenience tends to the biggest factor when it comes to deciding what people eat, with 53% of people saying they don’t think about want to eat until they’re actually hungry.

Is it Okay to RSVP To A Wedding Via Text Message?

In a video posted on June 5, professional dancer Cheryl half-jokingly blasted wedding guests who took their sweet time to RSVP or tried to RSVP for her nuptials in nontraditional ways. "So I think we should scroll down this list and see who hasn't RSVP'd yet," she says in the clip teasing her weekly "Wifey Wednesday" segment for IGTV. "A text is not going to do -- you must RSVP," she says about one guest she invited, making sure to turn off the volume when naming names. "I was at your wedding, so you'd better be comin'," she says of another, then declares, "I haven't seen you in years, but tick tock!" of yet another invitee. Cheryl explained that finalizing the guest list of 200 had been tough in the weeks leading up to her nuptials: "It's been really hard, which is why I cannot put the seating chart together because no one's RSVP'd."

  • Have you ever tried to RSVP to a wedding via text message?
  • Would you accept a text message as an RSVP to your wedding?
