Keys To Taking The Perfect Dating Profile Photo

A lot of people are still looking for love online, but they could be sabotaging their chances at finding “The One” simply by posting a bad photo on their dating profile. So, what do you need to post the perfect picture to attract a mate?

Well,David Vermeulen,CEO and founder of exclusive dating app The Inner Circle, believes he has the perfect formula for the perfect picture, so you may want to listen up.

According to Vermeulen, the most popular profile pictures for women are framed in a medium close-up, with no filters. In addition, the gal should be smiling, and wearing her hair down, with waves in her hair a bonus. Plus, he notes, gals should use pictures taken by someone else, not a selfie.

As for men, their photo should also be framed as medium close-up, and they should be well-groomed, although they can have stubble or a beard. They should also skip the filters, with their face clearly visible, which means no glasses, and they should make sure they have decent lighting.

“First impressions are everything,” Vermeulen says. 'Your main profile picture should show your face clearly, be of good quality and have decent lighting.” He also suggests staying away from sunglasses, and definitely “duckfaces,” plus shirtless gym or bathroom selfies are also a no-no.

  • As for the other photos in your profile, he says folks should look to tell people something about themselves. “The other photos in your dating profile should tell a story about who you are,” he shares. “'What does your life look like and what do you enjoy doing? This could include pictures of travel, hobbies and friends.” He notes that five to six other pictures is plenty.

Ever Wonder if Someone Has Blocked Your Phone Number?

Ever call someone (with an iPhone) and it goes right to voicemail or the call message says “temporarily out of service” or “the person you’re trying to reach is not taking calls at this time?” Well, then you’ve been blocked, according to Justin Lavelle, Chief Communications Officer with BeenVerified.com. So how to tell if someone blocked your number from texts with an Android phone? If an Android user has blocked you, Lavelle says, “your text messages will go through as usual; they just won’t be delivered to the Android user.” It’s the same as an iPhone, but without the “delivered” notification (or lack thereof) to clue you in.

  • Who in your life have you blocked from your phone and why? When will they get unblocked or will that never happen?

Having Kids Makes You Happier -- Once They've Moved Out

Having children will make you happier than staying childless, according to a new study, but not until later in life, when they have flown the nest. A team of researchers led by Christoph Becker at Heidelberg University in Germany found that parents tend to be happier than non-parents in old age, but this only holds if their kids have moved out. Previous research has suggested that parenthood, social networks, and marital status affect the well-being and mental health of older people, and this latest study looks at the effects of family status. One of the biggest factors is that children become a form of social support, and the researchers point out that social support networks are associated with greater happiness and less loneliness and can act as a buffer against stressful events. "The results suggest that the finding of a negative link between children and well-being and mental health may not generalize to older people whose children have often left home already," the study says.
