Which Is A Better Day To Shop: Black Friday Or Cyber Monday

Black Friday was the pinnacle of bargain shopping for decades, but in the last few years, Cyber Monday has become the biggest shopping event in the country. So when it comes to discounts, which is the better day to shop? The short answer is that Cyber Monday has better deals overall, but it’s close and it depends on a few factors.

According to research from Honey, the coupon-and discount-shopping browser extension, last year’s Cyber Monday average savings (per user, per purchase) topped at 21%, while Black Friday savings reached 18.5%. But that’s for online shopping and different products get better discounts each day, so you really have to wait to see what stores are offering when they release their Black Friday and Cyber Monday ads.

Until then, these rules of thumb can help:

  • Shop Black Friday for expensive products and big ticket items for your own household, like TVs and appliances.
  • Shop Cyber Monday for gadgets and things you’re buying as a gift, including newer technologies.
  • Cyber Monday is a good time to shop eBay, where people will already be reselling things they just bought on Black Friday.
  • Amazon has better deals on Cyber Monday, as long as you’re a Prime member.
  • Black Friday has cheaper prices on this year’s products, Cyber Monday for older generations.
  • Shop Black Friday if you’re shopping in a store.

Reese’s Has New Holiday Shapes, But You Have To Guess What They Are

The only thing better than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are Reese’s holiday shapes, like the eggs for Easter, the pumpkins at Halloween, and the trees for Christmas. But now they’re coming out with a Mystery Shapes bag with three new holiday shapes and you have to use your imagination to decide what they are.

These are reportedly the first new Reese’s holiday shapes in 20 years and you can already find them in stores and online, so you can dig in and start guessing now. But really, as long as there’s Reese’s peanut butter inside, who cares what shape it is?

Study: Couples Are Happier When They Ignore Things They’ll Never Agree On

All couples have to deal with conflict at some point in their relationship, but it turns out, ignoring it could make them happier. Arecent studyfrom the University of Tennessee finds that couples who gloss over big issues and focus on solving small, day-to-day problems tend to be happier.

The research was based on surveys and interviews with couples who described themselves as happily married. After reviewing their communication styles, conflicts they face, and how they tackle problems together, researchers found the marriages were stronger and the people in them were happier when they put their energy into dealing with minor issues they could fix and ignoring the big ones they would never agree on.

Study authorAmy Rauerexplains that focusing on the more difficult to solve problems could undermine partners’ confidence in their relationship, but working on fixing little issues helps build up a sense of trust and security. So the small victories that come from working out conflicts like dividing chores make couples feel like they’re on the same team andthatboosts their happiness in the relationship overall.

Should Disaster Sites Be Made Into Tourist Destinations?

In an effort to boost tourism to turn the Chernobyl disaster zone into a tourist attraction, the Ukrainian government recently decided to open a highly radioactive reactor control room to tourists. The control room of Chernobyl’s reactor four is where Ukrainian engineers turned off the nuclear reactor’s cooling pumps during a safety test in April of 1986. Tourism in the Chernobyl exclusion zone has been booming ever since the hit show “Chernobyl” premiered on HBO in May, but has been boosted even more by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, who plans to “create a green corridor for tourists” in the area around the nuclear facility.

  • Have you ever visited a disaster site as a tourist? What’s the attraction to being somewhere that a lot of people lost their lives?
