Need To De-stress? Try The Dutch Method Of Niksen

It’s no secret that a lot of people have stress in their life, and don’t always know how to get rid of it. Well, the Dutch seem to have a very interesting method of de-stressing which may just be perfect for you. It’s called: Niksen

Basically translates to “do nothing,” which means folks can de-stress by either doing exactly that,nothing...or doing something without a real purpose. What exactly does all that entail?

  • Well, some examples include looking out a window without thinking or lying on a sofa and listening to music.
  • It can be anything, possibly even monotonous, that will keep you from thinking about what needs to get done in your life like appointments, commitments and such.

Of course that isn’t always easy, but experts believe by allowing yourself to do nothing the body’s stress levels will automatically decline. Plus they note that folks can actually be inspired by things when they are doing nothing special, which results in some fresh ideas.

"One more #@*!ing rep!" Cursing eases pain, can help your workout, scientists say

If you're struggling to push out that last rep, don't be afraid to drop that F-bomb before you drop that barbell. That's because scientists have confirmed that swearing can make you stronger.

This news comes from anacademic paperout of Keele University in England, titled, "Running head: Swearing, Strength and Power."

Using exercise tools like a hand vise and stationary bikes, as well as reviewing studies dealing with people being exposed to to buckets of cold water to measure their pain tolerance, the scientists found that those who cursed got a boost of adrenaline, which not only acted like an analgesic but also boosted the heart rate and breathing, enhancing performance.

Not only that, but for these reasons, swearing during a workout could actually protect you from injury, the scientists surmised.

Would You Be Willing To Be Given The Flu Virus For A Study For $3,000 Dollars?

Scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases are infecting willing subjects with influenza A (the infamous H1N1 virus, which has caused pandemics) and closely monitoring their symptoms to better understand how the virus works and how to control it. For a handsome sum of up to $3,300, 80 adult participants across four research facilities will receive a nasal spray with the virus and spend at least one week at an inpatient facility until they’ve stopped “shedding” the virus — that is, potentially infecting other people. As volunteers cough, heave, sleep and shiver, researchers hope to glean how levels of preexisting flu antibodies will impact the duration and severity of participants’ flu symptoms.

  • Would you be willing to have the flu for $3,300 dollars?
