Tips To Turn Swipes Into First Dates

Just hearing the phrases “online dating” and “first dates” is enough to raise stress levels for some folks, butBela Gandhiis here to help. She’s the founder and president of the Smart Dating Academy, a coaching agency to help clients “make dating fun” in their pursuit of a meaningful relationship. And she says these six tips can take you from first swipe on an app to a first date in seven days.

  • Don't be afraid to send the first message -These days it’s fine for the man or woman to initiate contact, so step up and do it. Don’t overthink it, Bela points out that “you don’t need to be Shakespeare or an ‘SNL’ comedian,” just find something in their profile to comment on or use an icebreaker like “Peanut butter: smooth or crunchy?”
  • Good banter is like a game of tennis -So if someone seems unresponsive or answers your questions with just a “yes” or “no” repeatedly, take it as a sign to move on to someone who may actually want to meet up.
  • Pay attention to red flags -It’s easy to overlook warning signs when we’re talking with someone who’s superhot, successful, or funny, but you should always trust your gut. If the person you’re talking to seems too negative, angry, or controlling, go with your intuition and cut off contact.
  • Make a phone call -It’s the next step after a few good exchanges and talking on the phone does two things: screens out “crazies” who can’t hide their crazy for more than 10 minutes and builds connection. It’s less awkward to go out with someone you’ve briefly chatted with than meeting them cold. But keep the call short, like 10 to 20 minutes, even if it’s going well and you have a good connection, so you save something to talk about on the date.
  • Get to the first date -If you think they’re a good fit, ask for the date. And keep it short and sweet when you go out, Bela suggests the first date be no more than two hours.
  • Stay patient and positive -Finding the right partner is one of the most important things you’ll ever do, so take your time. Dating is a long game and you can’t hurry love.

Guy Performs Mouth To Mouth On Lizard That Drowned In His Beer

They say cats have nine lives but maybe geckos do as well. Especially the ones that almost drown in a man's beer.

A video has surfaced of an Australian man nicknamedSlab, who found a gecko in his beer after going for a cigarette outside a pub. When he returned, he found the gecko in his beer and thought it was a joke. However, he quickly realized it was no joke.

The man jumped into action by performing CPR on the gecko and giving it mouth to mouth. Footage showed Slab performing chest compressions with a single index finger. Slab then put the lizard into the palm of his hand where it began to stir. He actually saved the lizard's life.

The two ended up leaving the pub together later that night.

Most People Lie On Resume, And Hiring Managers Don’t Really Care

Having an impressive resume will go a long way towards finding you that dream job, so it’s only logical to want to pad it as much as you possibly can to attract an employer. And it turns out, a lot of people are doing just that.

A newChecksterstudy finds:

  • 78% of people say they’ve misrepresented themselves on a resume, in other words they lied.
  • 60% of people have lied about mastery in skills they only had basic knowledge of.
  • Other common resume fibs include:
    • False reason for leaving a job (45%)
    • Made-up relevant experiences (42.25%)
    • Using a director title when they were only a manager (41.25%)
    • Listing a degree from a prestigious university instead of their own (39.25%)

But while it may seem like a bad thing to lie on a resume, it turns out most hiring managers don’t really care. In fact…

  • 66% of hiring managers say they are willing to accept misrepresentations on a resume.
  • They are most lenient about inflating GPAs by more than a half a point, with 92% of hiring folks still willing to consider an applicant who has done so.
  • But hiring managers say the worst thing an applicant can do is give a fake reference.
  • 54% of hiring managers say they would never hire someone who faked a reference, although 43.75% say they had or would.
