How Social Distancing Could Make Our Friendships Stronger

Have you noticed a serious uptick in your friends reaching out to you since the Coronavirus started? Planning a group brunch used to be a nightmare, but now group video-chats are a breeze. There are not many positive spins on this crisis, but one of them may be that our friendships are growing stronger.

Mental health specialistKirsty Lilleysays friendships rely on a reciprocal flow of care and attention. And now since our free time has shot through the roof, we’re spending more of it giving our friends the care and attention they deserve. “Friendships can provide an anchor, a place of solace, humor, and perspective to get us through the days and weeks ahead,” says Lilley.

It’s like the old phrase “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” We’ve taken our friends for granted so now a lot of us are suddenly realizing just how important they are to us.

Here’s some tips for improving your friendships during social distancing:

  • Communicate via video or call instead of texts.
  • Listen with more empathy.
  • Reach out and ask for support.
  • Plan shared coffee breaks or happy hours.
  • Be curious, ask questions.
  • Do some random acts of random kindness.

The latest involves names, birthdays, emails, phone numbers and Marriott account numbers, though the company said not all of those personal details were compromised for every guest.

Marriott says notices will be sent to all affected guests starting next Tuesday. They will also be offered personal information monitoring. Additionally, there is a website and call center to allow customers to access more information on the breach and next steps.

Report: MLB Considering July 4 As Possibility For Opening Day

If all is right in the world by then, we could have baseball to go along with our backyard barbecues and fireworks shows on Independence Day this year.

At least according to the Los Angeles Timeswho said yesterdaythat July 4 has been one of the options floated as a possibility in MLB circles for Opening Day.

The report comes afterPresident Donald Trumpannounced earlier this week that federal social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus pandemic have been extended until at least April 30. Trump also said that he expects the country to be “well on our way to recovery by June 1.”

We have also heard recentlythat a “Part II” of spring training will occuronce quarantine restrictions are lifted so that the players can get back into shape. Thus, the Fourth of July would be a poetic day to get baseball back and would also ensure that teams have enough time to get ready for the season.
