Mom Who Started Gender Reveals Wants Them To Stop

A woman who’s been credited with starting the gender reveal party trend is now begging other people to stop doing them.Jenna Karvunidis threw the first known gender reveal party 12 years ago and she’s watched as it’s become more and more popular with parents-to-be who can’t wait to tell the world if they’re having a boy or girl. But this mom of three is not a fan of the practice anymore and has made her feelings known in aFacebookpost.

After a gender reveal party in a California park literally exploded and sparked a wildfire that has destroyed thousands of acres of land, Karvunidis is pleading with people to “Stop having these stupid parties.” “For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid's penis,” she writes in the post. “No one cares but you.”

And this isn’t even the first time she’s made her feelings on the subject known. Last year, she also took to Facebook to share her regrets and why she’s had a change of heart about gender reveal parties. It turns out, that baby girl she had the party for 12 years ago has grown up to identify as nonbinary. While last year’s post calls out the parties because “assigning focus on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talents that have nothing to do with what's between their legs,” this year she’s calling for an end to them because of how dangerous they’ve become.

Los Angeles Bans Trick-Or-Treating...Sorta

Los Angeles County, which has recorded more COVID-19 cases than any other in the United States, started the week banning trick-or-treating on Halloween this year due to the health crisis.

County health officials outlined the ban in updated guidance, which prohibited traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating as well as car-to-car exchanges (aka trunk-or-treats), Halloween parties at homes, carnivals, festivals, live entertainment and haunted houses.

Apparently, they felt the outrage...and now, county officials are walking it back. Public Health DirectorBarbara Ferrersays that the guidelines have been “slightly revised,” saying the activities are being labeled "not recommended" instead of prohibited.
