Study: Work Productivity Improves With Fresh Air

You may have heard the phrase “work smarter, not harder”...but what about “work less, work best?”Probably not since I just made that up, but according to science, that’s a thing. It may seem counterintuitive but new surveys have found taking more breaks could be the key to getting more done.

Researchers have found thatspending 29-minutes outdoors results in a 45% increase in productivity. On top of that, 63% of employees also said they feel significantly better after getting some fresh air. And since remote workers have more control of their breaks and time spent outside, it might just account for why nearly three in five (57%) managers say their staff has been more productive during the lockdown.

In fact, getting outside more may be one of the biggest things work-from-homers aren’t ready to give up. Pre-quarantine, the average office worker spent 60 minutes outside per day, but now that figure is up to 75 minutes per day. And 56% of employees say spending more time outdoors has become a newfound priority for them.Trading sunshine for fluorescent bulbs might be a dealbreaker post-lockdown.

This Fridge Hack Can Cut Down On Food Waste

Who else likes to proudly display all the new groceries in the front of the fridge, covering up all the old food in the back? We like to look at the fresh stuff, meanwhile our old container of strawberries and bag of spinach are getting squishy behind the new buys and by the time we find the previous produce purchases, it’s too late and we have to toss them.

Food waste is a common problem in the U.S. and Dr.Denise Bustard, a scientist turned food blogger, has a fridge hack to help keep us from throwing out uneaten produce that’s past its prime. She suggests making a “use me first” bin so fruits and veggies don’t get lost in the back of the refrigerator and go bad before you find it. It helps you get more organized and it’s in plain view, so you know what to reach for first when you go to grab.

Dr. Bustard’s tips for creating a “use me first” bin include:

  • Use a clear container since being able to see what’s in there is key.
  • Go with a larger size bin, so you have room for things like romaine lettuce and cucumbers.
  • Get in the habit of making that bin the first stop for snacks, stir-fries or salads.

It’s so simple, but it can make a big difference with cutting down on food waste.

Amazon Schedules Delayed Prime Day for October 13-14

Amazon announced yesterday when it will hold its annual Prime Day, after it was put off this summer by the COVID-19 pandemic. The retailer said the special shopping event will be held October 13 and October 14.

Amazon said it will spend more than $100 million on promotional activities to aid small businesses and attract new customers. Prime Day is available to shoppers in the United States, Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria and Australia.

For the first time, shoppers in Turkey and Brazil will participate, the company said. "This has been a challenging year for many small businesses,” says Amazon. “And selling in Amazon's stores has enabled hundreds of thousands of smaller companies to sustain and even grow their sales despite the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.”

Does Doing Homework With Your Kids Make You Feel Stupid? Do You Lie About How Much You Know So They Think You’re Smarter?

According to a new survey of 2,000 American parents the average American parent’s science and math knowledge taps out around the sixth-grade level. When asked to estimate the grade they’d be placed into for both math and science if they took a test today, the average respondent said sixth grade for each.
