Ways To Challenge Your Hustle And Creativity

How’s your last new year’s resolution coming along? Not great? You’re not alone. How about instead of waiting until January 1st to challenge yourself, you got a bit of a head start on the rest of the world? Here are some things to try over the next few months to build on your creativity and hustle.

  • Add a twist to something established. New can be scary so why not start with “slightly different” instead. Find something you like doing and put a new spin on it. Something as easy as trying a new variation of an exercise you’ve gotten a little bored with could be exactly what you need to shake things up.
  • Use your non-dominant hand for simple tasks.Tonight when you brush your teeth, use your non-dominant hand. It might be awkward at first, but the more you stick with it, the more new neural pathways you’ll create, and the more creative you’ll become.Dr. P. Murali Doraiswamyfrom Duke University Medical Center says “it's like having more cell towers in your brain to send messages along. The more cell towers you have, the fewer missed calls.” Plus, studies show doing more things with your other hand can lead to better impulse control and emotional health.
  • Read, write, and draw.Studies show that reading fiction “can transport you into the body of the protagonist” which helps to build on empathy levels and also strengthens relationships. If reading isn’t your bag, try art or writing instead. They’ve both been shown to help improve the neural pathways that control attention and focus.

You can find plenty more ways to work on your hustle and creativityHERE.

The Case For Taking A Midday Nap

The perks of working from home like comfy clothes and non-stop snacking get a lot of love, but let’s talk about something that isn’t getting the praise it deserves.Napping. We’ve all had those days in the office where we wished we could just lay down and get some shut-eye, but now for remote workers, that's actually a thing. And experts say it should continue to be because naps are great for us.

  • What Are The Benefits Of Napping?Besides the obvious that sleep is amazing, naps have plenty of other positive effects. They can relax you, they can improve your mood and temperament, and they’ve been shown to improve focus. In fact, Harvard Medical School’sRebecca Robbinssays she often recommends naps to pro athletes before big games since they can bring on “that feeling of being in the zone.”
  • The Perfect Nap. Not all naps are created equal. Experts say that ideally, a nap should be somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes and Robbins says the optimal time in the day to take one is between noon and 4pm. When you stray from those numbers is when you start cutting into your normal sleep cycle and mess things up for yourself. It’s also going to cut into the time you were supposed to be on a Zoom conference call so don’t go too hard with the Zzzs.

Burger King Debuts Reusable Containers

Your next meal at Burger King may be a little greener because the fast food chain is launching a pilot program to “reduce its environmental impact.” They are joining forces with TerraCycle’s circular packaging service, known as Loop, to provide reusable sandwich and beverage cup containers.

What that means is when you order a Whopper, soft drink or coffee as usual, they’ll may be served in a container that you don’t toss...you bring it back. Easy enough right? Maybe, but there is a catch. You can opt out, of course, but if you opt in, you’ll be charged a deposit. And of course, get a refund when it’s returned—kinda like soda and water bottle deposits.

So far, a number of select Burger King restaurants in NYC, Portland, Oregon and Tokyo will be the first to try it out in 2021. If it goes well, of course, more cities will be added later. “We’re investing in the development of sustainable packaging solutions that will help push the food service industry forward in reducing packaging waste,” saidMatthew Banton, head of innovation and sustainability at Burger King Global. “The Loop system gives us the confidence in a reusable solution that meets our high safety standards, while also offering convenience for our guests on the go.”
