The Boy Scouts will go through a name change. With girls becoming Scouts the organization is changing its name to reflect the fact that they are “no longer just for boys.”
Effective February 2019, the new name for the Boy Scouts program will be "Scouts BSA." The parent organization will still be Boy Scouts of America. The Cub Scouts, which will retain its name, has already started admitting girls. Scouts BSA will let girls join starting next year.
Girl Scout leaders initially said they were blindsided by the move, but now, they appear to be fairly unimpressed. “Girl Scouts is the premier leadership development organization for girls,” Sylvia Acevedo, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, said in a statement. “We are, and will remain, the first choice for girls and parents.”
