Police Save The Day After Girl Scout Cookie Stand Robbery

This time of year, we’re happy to see Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of our grocery stores, but last week in Union City, California, a 12-year-old girl and her mom were robbed at gunpoint at their Girl Scout Cookie stand. Thankfully, neither of them were hurt, but they were pretty upset.

And the local police were too. They’ve since donated over $1,000 to the Girl Scout and they’ve been buying up boxes of cookies too. Lots of officers involved in the investigation are parents of scouts too, so they’ve been donating money to cover what was lost in the robbery. The Union City Police Officers Association even purchased all the cookies the girls had left.

Sergeant Steve Mendez says that when officers heard about the robbery, they started pulling out their wallets and handing money over. "We're just glad no one was hurt,” he says, “and we were able to change a negative thing into something positive for the mom and her daughter.”

Today is National Crab Rangoon Day

February 13th is National Crab Rangoon Day! Crab rangoons are deep-fried dumplings served within American Chinese restaurants. These Chinese wonton wrappers, in a triangular or flower shape, are filled with a combination of cream cheese, lightly flaked crabmeat, scallions, and garlic.

This traditional appetizer was invented at a Polynesian-Style restaurant in the mid 1950s. Crab rangoons are often referred to as crab pillow, crab puffs, crab cheese wontons, or cheese wontons.

They are usually served with soy sauce, plum sauce, sweet and sour sauce, or mustard for dipping purposes. In case you’re curious what the difference between wontons and rangoons are
wontons are typical Chinese/Cantonese dishes and are often boiled in preparation. Rangoon is a deep-fried dumpling found in other South East Asian countries and is popular with crab served inside. Hungry yet? Me, too!

Young Lotto Winner Is Considering Suing, Saying The Money Ruined Her Life

Regardless of your age, you've probably dreamt about winning the lotto. Scottish woman Jane Park did that at just 17, becoming the youngest EuroMillions winner in Britain's history. Four years later, she's considering suing the lottery, saying no one her age should have been allowed to play.

Park thinks the minimum age for playing the lotto should be 18, claiming the lottery is acting negligent by letting anyone 16 or older buy a ticket. Why is her life so hard, exactly? She says there's "stress" that comes along with being a millionaire and it's hard to find a boyfriend who isn't after her money.

"I thought it would make it ten times better but it’s made it ten times worse. I wish I had no money most days. I say to myself, ‘My life would be so much easier if I hadn’t won,'" Park explains. â€œI have material things but apart from that my life is empty. What is my purpose in life?”

Tennessee Passes Bill Allowing People To Hit Protesters Blocking Roads

Tennessee just made it legal to injure protesters who are blocking roadways and other rights of way. The bill, introduced Wednesday and which easily passed the senate Friday, renders someone who runs over a protester who is blocking the street free from civil liability, so long as the driver was exercising ‘due care.’

The bill was likely in response to The Memphis Black Lives Matter rally last July, which shut down the I-40 bridge with hundreds of protesters refusing to leave. Traffic could not go across, including the parents of a very sick baby.

Paramedic Bobby Harrell with Crittendon EMS recounts “We received a call there was a child needing medical attention stuck in traffic up on the bridge and due to the protest going on the bridge the family was not able to get through.”

The Sheriff’s department had to escort the ambulance up the wrong way on the interstate to get to the child. A photo shows the parents, handing off their child to paramedics on the bridge. Harrell said after he had the very sick child in the ambulance, the driver then had to go 25 minutes out of the way to get the child to the nearest hospital.

This comes after several other states including Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, and North Dakota announced that they were considering similar measures, including one Washington state lawmaker who introduced legislation that would make what he calls “economic terrorism” a class-C felony. The Tennessee bill doesn’t criminalize the act, but would provide civil immunity to the driver, so long as the driver was not driving recklessly and was exercising due care.

Verizon Is Jumping On The Unlimited Data Bandwagon

A holdout against the free data trend has given in. Beginning today, Verizon customers will be able to get unlimited data plans.

Here’s how the plans work; customers may keep their current plans or opt for an 80 dollar monthly plan, for a single line, with unlimited data, talking and texting. Customers must agree to AutoPay and paper-free billing. Families can also pay $45 per line for four lines.

Verizon has been losing ground to Sprint and T-Mobile, so they opted to offer customers what they want. Verizon's plan delivers high definition video and lets you use your smartphone as a wireless hotspot for up to 10GB of data at no additional charge. T-Mobile and Sprint limit their mobile video streams to a lower resolution.

Now AT&T remains the only provider not offering free data to all customers. We bet that will change soon enough. Source: USA Today

Tips For Shopping At Victoria’s Secret

From Tom: I’ve never been in a relationship long enough to hit the “buy sexy underwear” stage. (I once had a girl buy some for herself . . . and my gift was she would wear it). There are several articles with tips for men going “sexy underwear shopping.”

Here are some tips boiled down from some originally written by Alecia Li Morgan on Quora.com.

Here are some pro-tips and work-arounds to get the average guy through a shopping trip at VS with minimal trauma:

Size helps. The easiest way to figure this out is if you have access to her clothing and can just check her bra and panty size. If you can only get one, get the bra size.

Style guide is good. Remember: you're probably going to be looking at them, but SHE is going to be wearing them. If you know she only wears plain cotton everything, buying her a really intricate lacy whatnot is probably not going to be your best bet. We can suggest items that are along those same lines, but maybe a little bit fancier or whatever.

Choose your battleground.

Time - don't go midday on a weekend. Associates are going to be swamped, the store is going to be packed with women (who will shoot you suspicious glances 9 times out of 10), lines will be long, product will be messier, and you're going to want to cut and run before you make it one room in.

Place - a smaller store at a smaller mall may be more enthused to see you (or any customer) and thereby give you extra attention,

Day of the week is also important. You already know no weekends. Tuesdays are good because most of the "new" promotions and new launches begin on Tuesdays. This means likely the newer stuff will be freshly put out and you'll have a higher chance of getting what you want in the size you want.
