Officer Takes Pity After Seeing Handwritten Note

We sometimes think of the people who write parking tickets as heartless, but one officer proved that’s not always the case. When Parking Control Officer Jim Hellrod was making his morning rounds in Wausau, Wisconsin, he found a handwritten note tucked underneath a car’s windshield wiper and it helped the car’s owner avoid a ticket.

“Please take pity on me,” the note read. “I walked home … safe choices.” And the unidentified driver ended it with a smiley face.

Officer Hellrod appreciated the driver’s honesty and the fact that they didn’t get behind the wheel after what he assumes was a night of drinking. So he issued a warning instead of a ticket, taking pity and making that driver’s day.
