Inmates Save Correctional Officer Who Passed Out
When an officer who was working security for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office work detail in Georgia passed out, six inmates called 911 and saved him. The prisoners are being praised for their quick thinking and life saving efforts.
The humidity was at 100% and it was already 76 degrees out that morning and the unnamed officer just collapsed. So the inmates sprang into action, unbuttoning his shirt and removing his bulletproof vest so they could do CPR while another inmate used the officer’s phone to call 911.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office shared a Facebook post thanking the inmates for their actions. And that officer’s family treated the men to a well-deserved lunch, including dessert to thank them for their efforts.
“They stepped up in a time of crisis and show that they really care about my officers,” Sheriff Johnny Moats says. “That really speaks a lot about my officers, too, how they treat these inmates. Like people. Like family.”

You Can Major In Social Media Stardom Now
Forget English, engineering, or pre-med. Now, you can major in social media stardom. The Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College in China offers an associate program aimed at turning regular people into social media influencers.
Classes are offered in applying makeup, performing on camera and learning luxury brands as well as “aesthetic cultivation” and “fashion sensitivity."
A tuition price isn't being reported, but YWICC has been offering the program since 2015. It may seem crazy, but Zhang Dayi, a fashion entrepreneur/vlogger, earned $46-million in 2016- more than China’s top actresses.

Food Too Salty? Use A Different Colored Napkin
When you’re setting the table, don’t just coordinate the napkins to the plates and tablecloths. According to a new report, the color of the napkins can affect the flavor of the food you’re eating.
Napkin brand Tork worked with Swedish food stylist and chef Linda Lundgren, who tried dishes with different colored napkins and found the shades affected the taste of the foods differently.
“How do you make a strawberry mousse sweeter and richer tasting? The answer isn’t more strawberries and sugar,” Lundgren explains. “Instead, try serving the dish with a coral pink napkin. The color increases the perception of sweetness and decreases bitterness.” So it’s perfect for desserts.
Their research also found:
- Aqua blue napkins enhance the flavor of eggs and Indian food by making food seem less salty.
- Mustard yellow improves the flavor of green dishes like sprouts and salads.
- Gray napkins help contrast lighter meals and help Mediterranean food taste richer.

Breatharian Couple Claim They Haven’t Had a Proper Meal in 9 Years, Survive on Cosmic Energy
Scientific evidence shows that fasting for brief periods of time can have positive effects on our health, but one California couple say they haven’t eaten any real food in 9 years, as they live off “the universe’s energy” instead.
36-year-old Akahy Ricardo and his wife, Camilla Costello, 34, had their last real meal in 2008, before becoming “bretharians” and embracing a food-free lifestyle. They both claim that humans can easily live a healthy life without food, as long as they are connected to “the energy that exists in all things and through breathing.” Furthermore, Costello claims that this lifestyle is considerably cheaper, allowing her and her husband to spend money on travelling rather than groceries.
“For three years, Akahi and I didn’t eat anything at all and now we only eat occasionally like if we’re in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit,” Camilla Costello says. “Since Breatharianism, I feel healthier and happier that I’ve ever done before. When I was younger, my weight fluctuated but now after having two children, my body bounced back to its natural shape immediately. I never suffer from PMS symptoms anymore and I feel more emotionally stable.”
“Our children are aware of Breatharianism and the energy that exists in the universe and in themselves, but we would never try to change them and we let them eat whatever they want — whether that be juices, vegetables, pizza or ice cream,” Akahi adds. “We want them to explore the different tastes and have a healthy relationship with food as they grow.”

Here’s Why Companies May Want To Let People Bring Their Pets To Work
Friday is National Take Your Dog to Work Day and while you may think having pets in the office means no work will be getting done, a new survey finds that four-legged friends can actually be an asset on the job.
The new Pets At Work report from Purina reveals that folks who can bring their fur babies to the office are likely to be happier on the job. In fact, 63% of employees working at pet-friendly companies say they are “very satisfied” with their work environment, which is twice as many as those who can’t have pets in the office.
Pets in the office seem to foster a more positive environment too, with 80% of people saying they feel more relaxed and sociable when their pet is at work. What’s more, 65% of workers say it’s important to them that an employer allows them to bring their pet to work. In addition, 63% of people say they’d be more enthusiastic interviewing for a job that allows them to bring their pets in one in three people in non-pet friendly workplaces wish they could have their pet with them.
And it’s not just dogs in the office. The survey finds that while 20% of dog owners bring their pets to work, 19% of cat owners do too.
