Dog Toys Are Cleaner Than Reusable Water Bottles-What?!

Water may be clean, but your reusable water bottle is definitely not.

Treadmill Reviews decided to find out how germy out bottles are and it may make you rethink buying agua by the case. The research revealed that “the average refillable bottle “can be many times worse than licking your dog’s toy.” How bad was it? The average athlete’s water bottle had 313,499 CFU (colony-forming units of bacteria) and the average dog toy has 2,937.

As far as the types of bottles, one was clearly more gross than the others. The slide top bottles tested had a whopping average of 933,340 CFU, while straw top water bottles were a clear winner with a mere 25.4 CFU. Also screw-top bottles had 159,060 CFU, which is about with the kitchen sink and the squeeze top had an average of 161,971 CFU.

Out of all this, the most important part of the research was discovering that most of the bacteria found on the bottles was classified as harmful and resistant strains were common as was E-Coli.

The scientists recommend going for the the straw bottles and to use stainless steel instead of plastic. Also, when you are done with the bottle, get it into the dishwasher immediately; don’t let it “simmer” in your backseat. Source: New York Post
