Ecstasy Is Greenlighted For PTSD Treatment

A club drug may actually help thousands of people cope with trauma.

The FDA is declaring MDMA, or ecstasy, as a breakthrough therapy for treating post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD). The recreational drug has been shown in clinical trials to provide significant relief for those with PTSD.

The new designation will help pave the way for effective treatments to be developed. The drug derives much of its benefit from creating feelings of euphoria. In one trial the drug led to more than 60 percent of test subjects ending up no longer suffering from PTSD.Source: Live Science
