Some folks do it somewhere quiet and private, others do it on the jumbotron at a sporting event, and now some people are even using an avocado to pop the question. Yes, that’s right, avocado proposals are a thing and we shouldn’t be surprised because it was only a matter of time.
The trend caught on when food stylist Colleen Dike posted a photo to her Instagram showing a perfectly halved avocado holding a diamond ring inside, taking the place of a fancy box. She captioned it, “Tag someone who should propose like this,” and the Internet ran with it.
Of course, this wasn’t the first time someone used the beloved produce to propose. Other clever fiancés have thought of it, too. And one upside to this trend is that there’s less chance of the recipient accidentally drinking the ring without knowing it, as sometimes happens with the old engagement ring in a glass of champagne trick. Plus, when after she says “yes!” you still get to enjoy that hollowed-out avocado. Bonus!
