Meteor Shower Tonight (5/4)

This year's Cinco de Mayo celebration includes a show in the night sky.

The Eta Aquarids meteor shower will be visible when the display peaks tomorrow night. The phenomenon occurs when the earth passes through Halley's Comet's tail. A similar Halley's Comet related event called the Orionids meteor shower happens in October.

NASA says the meteors in the comet's debris trail hit when the earth goes through Halley's orbit. The report says the meteors hit our atmosphere at nearly one-hundred-50-thousand miles an hour which is why they turn out to produce such an amazing shooting stars display.

While Halley’s tail creates some impressive displays, the comet itself is only visible every 76 years. The last time was in 1986, and the next is 2061.
