Study: Work Productivity Improves With Fresh Air

You may have heard the phrase “work smarter, not harder”...but what about “work less, work best?”Probably not since I just made that up, but according to science, that’s a thing. It may seem counterintuitive but new surveys have found taking more breaks could be the key to getting more done.

Researchers have found thatspending 29-minutes outdoors results in a 45% increase in productivity. On top of that, 63% of employees also said they feel significantly better after getting some fresh air. And since remote workers have more control of their breaks and time spent outside, it might just account for why nearly three in five (57%) managers say their staff has been more productive during the lockdown.

In fact, getting outside more may be one of the biggest things work-from-homers aren’t ready to give up. Pre-quarantine, the average office worker spent 60 minutes outside per day, but now that figure is up to 75 minutes per day. And 56% of employees say spending more time outdoors has become a newfound priority for them.Trading sunshine for fluorescent bulbs might be a dealbreaker post-lockdown.
