We’ve all grown up with the Internet so we’re pretty cocky when it comes to our abilities to decipher between real or fake news.But here’s the problem.A new study has found people who are the most confident about their abilities to filter between fact and fiction are actually the worst at it.
But wait, it gets worse.These folks with totally misplaced confidence in their fake news detection skills were also more likely to visit websites linked to misleading news and reported a higher willingness to share false content.Hence why your Facebook feed fills you with so much rage.
And to give you an idea of just how many people out there on the net are too big for their britches, the study had over 8,000 participants and over 70% of them fell into the overconfident category. Long story short, we could all stand to be a little more humble and do a whole lot MORE fact-checking.
