Boy Scouts’ Name Is Going Away

The Boy Scouts will go through a name change. With girls becoming Scouts the organization is changing its name to reflect the fact that they are “no longer just for boys.”

Effective February 2019, the new name for the Boy Scouts program will be "Scouts BSA." The parent organization will still be Boy Scouts of America. The Cub Scouts, which will retain its name, has already started admitting girls. Scouts BSA will let girls join starting next year.

Girl Scout leaders initially said they were blindsided by the move, but now, they appear to be fairly unimpressed. “Girl Scouts is the premier leadership development organization for girls,” Sylvia Acevedo, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, said in a statement. “We are, and will remain, the first choice for girls and parents.”

Pizza Ice Cream Is The Newest Frankenfood

We love pizza. We love ice cream. So what could be better? Pizza ice cream? That’s what Bruno Pizza NYC in the East Village is banking on. They created the mashup, which is technically pizza crust ice cream, using the restaurants wood oven and basement flour mill.

Owner Demian Repucci says a scoop of this creation sells for $5 and features caramelized pizza crust in a gelato base. He makes it by charing pizza crusts in the oven, then soaking it in the gelato base overnight so the caramelized bread bits infuse with the gelato. Then he strains the chunks of crust out and spins the rest until it’s creamy.

But what we really want to know is what does it taste like? Repucci says it has a malty and toasty flavor, adding, “It’s sort of in the genre of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.” And now we’re in.

Riders Stuck Upside-Down on Roller Coaster for Two Hours

Riders on a Jurassic Park-themed roller coaster in Japan were stuck upside-down for two hours when the ride stalled, the park confirmed.

Universal Studios Japan said the Flying Dinosaur roller coaster had 64 passengers on board when it stalled at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The riders, some in the upside-down position 65-100 feet off the ground, were stuck on the ride for up to two hours. No injuries were reported.

The park said the incident was the result of a safety mechanism being triggered by an abnormality in the system. The ride resumed normal operations shortly after 7 p.m.

“Forest Bathing” Could Be The Mental Health Boost We Need

Next time you’re feeling stressed or frustrated, head outside and find some green. Most of us don’t go outside enough, according to the National Human Activity Pattern Survey, the average adult only spends about 5% of each day outdoors. But a wellness practice called “forest bathing,” could help improve our mental health, we just need to go outside to do it.

Forest bathing sounds crazier than it is, but all you’re supposed to do is go outside and surround yourself with nature. Being around all that greenery and the trees is supposed to help ease your stress. Dr. Frank Lipman, integrative medicine specialist and author of “How to be Well,” explains that even if you live in a city nowhere near a forest, you can head to a botanical garden or park to get the same benefits.

Lipman says surrounding yourself with nature for a short time a few times a week or better yet - everyday - can have a positive effect on your mental state. "Being fully present in nature puts you in a state of pleasure and relaxation, which turns on your parasympathetic nervous system," he explains. "You remain aware, but with a more soft focus that is less information-loaded and more calm and peaceful."

Not only is forest bathing a cheap and effective way to relax and clear your head, Lipman says nature can also boost serotonin levels and he explains that when you’re around all that greenery outside, you’re proven to feel more “compassionate, connected and serene.” And who doesn’t want that?
