Couples Reveal The Best Wedding Presents They Got

We all want to give the bride and groom a unique wedding present they’re going to love, but going off the registry can be risky. People like to give something personal and memorable, but how do you know if they’re going to like it? Take some advice fromReddit, where couples have been sharing the “best, most thoughtful/useful, non-requested wedding gifts” they received.

  • Wedding thank you cards -A couple got super fancy thank you cards and says “it was by far the most useful gift” they received.
  • Date night gift cards -A wallet filled with gift cards for local spots to use for date nights.
  • A post-honeymoon welcome home package -The best man stocked the newlyweds’ fridge with fresh food, drinks, and snacks so they wouldn’t have to go grocery shopping when they got back from their honeymoon.
  • A breakfast in bed tray- It’s something the couple says they’d never have thought to buy themselves, but they use it for breakfast in bed for every birthday, anniversary, and “random expression of gratitude or affection.”
  • A tool box -It’s not super romantic, but a toolbox filled with screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches and other tools was very useful for one couple.
  • A custom piece of art -A bride who’s bridesmaid is an illustrator created a picture of the happy couple that’s hanging in their living room and she says it “makes me smile every time I look at it.”
  • Cookbooks- Another couple received a set of cookbooks inscribed by the sender as a wedding gift and they say they’re still using them 20 years later.

Teacher Starts No-Homework Policy So Kids Get More Family Time

Now that kids are heading back to school, families are busier than ever and one teacher in Texas is trying something new to give her students more time to spend with their families. Evadale Elementary School teacherRichelle Terryhas started a no-homework policy for her classes.

She teaches in the Evadale Independent School District, which allows teachers to create their own lesson plans, as long as students meet the learning requirements for that grade. Terry teaches second- and third-grade math and she has three “active” sons, so she says she understands first-hand how stressful homework can be for everyone involved.

“I just feel like if we can let school be school and home be home and separate the two, they're recharged by the end of the day and ready for the next day,” Terry explains. “So I want to give them time to be a kid. Kids need to be kids. Family time is what they need.”

The teacher says there’s little research proving that homework is helpful and she uses the example of Finland, a country that has little or no homework but hashigher test scores and high school graduation rates. She believes she’ll be able to teach her students the material and give them time to finish worksheets during class and their school has a new tutorial period that will give them time to finish assignments.

Terry has the full support of The Evadale Independent School District Board of Trustees PresidentJim Love, whoshowed his support of her policy, saying that “homework has outlived its usefulness.”

Disney World Just Released A Much More Affordable Ticket Option

It's no secret thatDisney World tickets have gotten quite expensiveover the years. It seems like the House of Mouse has taken note of guest complaints about skyrocketing admission prices in recent years, though, because Disney just announced a much more affordable ticket option. If you don't mind missing out on rope drop at the parks, then this might just be the ticket option for you. Here's everything you need to know about saving some money while visiting Disney World.

The newDisney World ticket is called Mid-Day Magicand it's available for all four of the Florida theme parks. Guests can purchase Mid-Day Magic tickets for as little as $74, while regular tickets now cost $125. So, what's the catch? Well, if you purchase Mid-Day Magic as opposed to a full day ticket, you will have to wait until 12:00pm to enter the parks. The parks usually open at 8:00am or 9:00am, depending on the time of year, so you'll only lose three or four hours of park time. Not bad, right?

While this optionwon't work for the rope-drop-to-closekind of Disney guest, it's a solid option for guests who don't want to spend every minute of the day in Magic Kingdom or Epcot. Many Disney guests don't arrive to the parks until noon, anyway, so this is a great choice for the late-start guests to save a few extra bucks during their vacation. Instead of hitting the parks as early possible to be the first person on Splash Mountain for the day, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast at your resort or enjoy a swim in the pool.

Thebest part of Mid-Day Magic? You can upgrade these, as well, and add the Park Hopper option to the ticket. For those wondering what 'Park Hopper' means it simply allows guests to visit multiple parks in one day for a little more money. If you're starting at noon, though, you might want to skip the mid-day hotel nap and power through right on through the fireworks to really get your money's worth.

Will you be giving Mid-Day Magic tickets a try on your next Disney World trip?

Today’s Trendy Dating Term “Deflexting”

It seems like every day there’s a new dating term being coined, and today is no exception. It’s called Deflexting, and it’s basically when you text someone you’re dating a question via text and they don’t answer it but continue the conversation as though you never asked them at all. It’s usually when they just change the subject after taking forever to answer the text.

  • Are you guilty of Deflexting or do you always put it all out there no matter what?
  • What’s a question you’ve “Deflext” about because you didn’t feel comfortable answering it?

Town Gets Ready For Big Crowds At Alienstock -The storm Area 51 movement started as a joke, but the town in the center of things is treating it like it’s real.

A small town in rural Nevada is gearing up for massive crowds ahead of two alien-themed festivals next month. This week Lincoln County commissioners took the first steps in declaring a state of emergency to free up more funding for police and medical services.

The move came on the same day commissioners approved two permits for Alienstock and Peace-Stock 51. Both events will take place September 20th near the town of Rachel, the closest town to Area 51. The population of the town is 100, so they are not prepared for thousands of visitors.

The festivals evolved from a viral Facebook event that encouraged people to storm the famed military base to find proof of aliens.

The commissioners have a serious piece of advice for anyone planning to attend the events: “There are no restaurants, there’s no water, probably no gas, because the gas station’s going to run out. So come prepared, that’s all I can say.”
